Bucksburn Allotments Association or at least the idea, came into being late in 2008 as difficulties ensued after allotment holders discovered Council Owned plot rents were to be increased by 80% across the board. Attempts by individuals had been made to try to persuade the City Council to cancel or at least reduce the rent increases but without success. It was felt that it might be more productive to join forces and perhaps be able to have slightly more influence.
Bucksburn and Newhills Community Council afforded an opportunity for local allotment holders to put their concerns before the elected members from Aberdeen City Council at their October 2008 meeting and later agreed to include an article in it's Newsletter in an attempt to guage the interest and desire for an allotments association. Frank Taylor produced a series of photographs taken that day, showing the state of various allotments on the Sclattie Quarrie site, photographs of potatoes eaten by rats from an allotment adjacent to the rubbish tip at Sclattie and then delivered a comprehensive presentation to that meeting.
Frank also delivered an update to the Community Council on 27th November 2008.
